Building a Home in New Zealand

Insulation Makes for Happy Healthy Homes
Winter is just around the corner as much as we would like to put it off as long as possible it is inevitable. If you have lived through a winter in a house with no insulation, like I have, you will appreciate the need for proper insulation and heating in the winter months.

Proper insulation also cuts the costs of heating a home, there is no better way to throw money down the drain than to try and heat a home with little or no proper insulation.

If you live in a modern, recently built home, the chances are you home is insulation properly. You probably have a modern efficient heating system and you home is warm in the winter. However many New Zealanders live in older homes. Homes were insulation was not part of the original building specification. In studies carried out it has been proved that people whom live in warm, insulated homes experience better health, less visits to the doctor and fewer respiratory conditions.

The Wellington School of Medicine and Health Sciences carried out tests on households throughout New Zealand. Their findings led them to the conclusion that although the drop in energy usage was small it was significant in insulation homes.

People whom lived in insulated homes reported them to be drier and warmer. The researchers found an improvement in the reported health of those living in the insulated homes. Those living in insulated homes complained less of respiratory conditions. Adults from these homes took less days off work and the children missed less days off school.

If you are considering retro fitting insulation to you home, weight up the cost of it, just will be expensive, compared to the comfort of a warm home, you’re resell value and the health of you and your family. Can you really afford not to do it?
